Yang was born in Shanghai on May 27, 1980 and graduated from Tsinghua University with a degree in aerospace engineering. She began her career as a pilot for the People's Liberation Army Air Force before transitioning to space exploration.
In 2010, she became the first Chinese woman to fly in space, completing a six-month mission aboard the Shenzhou X spacecraft. During her time in space, she conducted scientific experiments and took part in several extravehicular activities (EVAs).
Yang was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and underwent treatment for the disease, but her illness continued to affect her health over the following years. In April 2020, she announced that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent chemotherapy.
Despite the challenges she faced, Yang remained determined to continue her work in space exploration. In June 2020,Primeira Liga Hotspots she was selected to join the crew of the Shenzhou XII mission, which launched in October 2020.
