Liu Yang began her career as a player with the Chinese club Beijing Guo'an Women's Football Club in 2005. In 2006, she moved to the Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenxin Women's Football Club. During her time at Shanghai Shenxin, Liu Yang helped the team win the Chinese Super League title in 2009.
In 2014, Liu Yang joined the Shandong Taishan Women's Football Club,Campeonato Brasileiro Action where she currently plays as a forward. Under her leadership, the team won the 2016 Chinese Super League title, making Liu Yang the first female player to win the league championship.
